ÖSSZEFOGLALÁS:

A nagyothallások többsége idegi jellegű.

Vitamin A treatment of hearing impairment of nervous nature.

SUMMARY

The majority of the hearing impairments is of nervous nature. Among the drogs used for their treatment the vitamin A is mostly employed. In regard of its efficacy, divergent views are reported in the literature. Therefore the authors have carried out systematic statistical examinations in the great material of the Hearing Welfare Centre, Buda. Among many thousands of patients treated with vitamin A only those have been examined, in whom impairment of hearing of nervous nature was present, who suffered from no other disease influencing the hearing and who did not receive any other treatment. Audiometric examination of the function of hearing has been performed every 3 months in each of these patients. Audiometric examination of the changes of hearing have been carried out in 103 patients treated with vitamin A, in 55 patients treated with vitamins A and E, and in 12 patients treated with vitamins A and Bx. The results of these examinations have been compared with those obtained in 59 controls. On the basis of the t-test no significant change of the hearing has been observed in the treated patients, — on the other hand, the impairment of hearing showed significant progression in the control group. From these examinations the reserved conclusion may be drawn that the spontaneous progression is inhibited by the vitamin A treatment, and that the effect of vitamin A is not influenced by the vitamin E and B,.
