ÖSSZEFOGLALÁS:

A felsőlégutak ismétlő lázas megbetegedése a gyermekekkel foglalkozó szak- rendelések leggyakoribb kórképei közé tartozik, melynek hátterében többnyire állandóan kiújuló mandulagyulladás áll.

The effect of tonsillectomy in childhood on the bacterial flora of the pharynx.

SUMMARY

Febrile conditions of the upper respiratory tract are the most frequent disorders encountered at pediatric clinics. Mainly constantly recurrent tonsillitis is the primary alteration. Bacteriological cultures from the pharynx and the cutting surface of the removed tonsil were performed during tonsillectomy of 433 children.
In more than a half of the cases pathogenic agents were found from the areas examined, the bacterial flora of the pharynx and the tonsils was, however, identical only in a small percentage. Bacteria were more frequently detected in the tonsils, than in the pharynx indicating that the child may be bacterium carrier also with negative throat bacterium finding. This observation may partly explain the aetiology of latent rheumatic carditis, too.
The dominance of staphylococcus aureus was revealed among the pathogenic factors.
Cases with staphylococcus aureus and sterptococcus hemolytieus positivity were asked for control 4 weeks after the intervention, and in 88.1 per cent of them normal pharyngeal flora was demonstrated.
Tonsillectomy with adequate indication spares the child from many further disorders of the upper respiratory tract and secures undisturbed bodily and mental development.
