An Isolated Aseptic Necrosis of the Incus.
SUMMARY
Making at first a short review on the literature on the subject the author describes the case of one of his female patients’ aged 27 years. The hearing of one ear deterioriated gradually during two years. The hearing of the other ear remained unimpaired. The patient has never suffered from inflammatory or other diseases of the auditory organs. The ear-drum being intact he diagnosed the case as an otosclerosis on the basis of the audiogram and other findings. On tympanotomy a septic necrosis of the anvil was found in the patient. By means of a suitably shaped small polythylene tube he created connection between the head of the stapes and the processus longus of the incus. Audiometrie con troll performed two weeks after the operation showed the closing of the gap air- bone. A year after the operation the result obtained is still unchanged.
The case seems to be of some interest because a similar case has not been published in the home literature and only a few such cases had been described abroad.
